The “McAfee VirusScan Plus” E-mail is a Scam!

That’s right, there is a malicious e-mail making its rounds with the subject title “McAfee VirusScan Plus”. The e-mail looks fairly legitimate however it does have a few spelling mistakes which is an indicating factor of its illegitimacy.

The spam e-mail comes with an attachment and prompts a recipient to download a free trial version of the software in order to be automatically entered into a competition:

“Download a FREE 30-day Trial of MCAfee VirusScan Plus and Be Automaticaly Entered to Win.
Installation file attached”

Conveniently, the above-mentioned software that you need to download is provided as an e-mail attachment. In reality however, the moment you open the attachment you will not be downloading any legitimate software; instead you will be downloading and executing the dangerous Bredolab Trojan.

Internet surfers should always remember that MCAfee, and most other security companies, do not send set up files for their products as email attachments but they do provide them on their official websites.
